With a goal of better serving patients and families in Central Texas, in early 2017 Estes Audiology acquired a well-known hearing care practice in Marble Falls for our fifth location. Here, we help the communities of Marble Falls, Spicewood, Horseshoe Bay, Granite Shoals, Briarcliff, and Burnet by improving quality of life through better hearing. We enjoy meeting new people, and we would love for you to get to know our Marble Falls Audiologists as they help people Hear Life Again!
Meet Dr. Jacob “Jake” Keup, Au.D
Given his dedication and commitment to hearing care for our patients, it’s hard to believe Dr. Jake Keup’s journey into audiology wasn’t as direct and conventional as most. Jake comes from a family with both business and engineering backgrounds. He also knew he wanted to be a part of the medical community, so he wanted to work in a field that would fully encompass all three disciplines.
While attending The University of Texas at Austin, Jake enrolled in a communication science and disorder class, then in hearing science classes, and his passion for audiology developed and blossomed. Amplification and technology involved engineering; running a future practice needed business knowledge; and understanding the anatomy and physiological aspects of the ear and brain fulfilled his medical interest. Audiology seemed like the perfect combination of all 3 subjects, and he fell in love with it.
Jake’s favorite aspect of audiology is working with patients every day, knowing he has the ability to make a difference in their lives. There are many opportunities, whether it be helping an underprivileged child, seeing happy tears from patients hearing their family members for the first time in a long time, or feeling the gratitude of families thankful for loved ones hearing again.
What does Jake enjoy most about working at Estes Audiology? “The shared value of compassion for everyone and the synergy between team members,” says Jake. “It’s amazing to see our approach to patient-centered care, opportunities to learn and grow, and a constant striving to give back to the community.” As part of a team working with the goal of helping others hear life again, we push each other to be better each and every day. For Jake, it doesn’t get better than that!
Meet Dr. Kathy Sonnamaker, Au.D
Since 2002, Dr. Kathy Sonnamaker has been re-connecting patients to their world by helping them hear life again. While she originally studied to be a speech pathologist, exposure to hearing science made her realize the importance of a sense so many take for granted. Her focus shifted to audiology, and she’s been in love with it ever since.
Audiology has provided Kathy with the opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives – not just for the hearing impaired, but for their families as well.
Kathy is particularly thrilled that being an audiologist involves using instrumentation. Her grandfather often told her that as a child she could never walk past anything without pushing the buttons and turning the knobs, a memory she holds fondly, and that interest carried over into her career.
Kathy enjoys working with older adults and cherishes the relationships she’s established with her Marble Falls patients over the years. Witnessing her patients experience an immediate change following hearing loss treatment is one of the many aspects she loves about her job. Continuing to serve patients in Marble Falls is what Kathy looks forward to every day.
Your home for advanced hearing care
Our team in Marble Falls uses the exact same hearing evaluation and fitting technology we have at all of our central Texas offices which include Austin, Boerne, New Braunfels, and Seguin. We’re an independent Audiology practice, meaning we recommend a variety of hearing aids, and not just from a single manufacturer. This means we can find and fit exactly the right device for you from leading brands including Lyric, Oticon, Phonak, and Widex.
Hearing protection is another emphasis in Marble Falls. If you’re a musician, shooter, boat mechanic, band teacher, or anyone working where noise can be a problem, we have electronic and filtered hearing protection solutions for preserving your hearing. We offer both off-the-shelf and custom fit hearing protection – a big advantage of custom fit devices is they can be worn for longer periods comfortably.
If you live or work in Marble Falls or a nearby community, there’s no need to drive all the way into Austin to get quality hearing care. Our office is just off US 281 south of the river, near CVS and Starbucks. Contact us to schedule an appointment for a hearing evaluation, or to learn about the latest hearing device and hearing protection technology.
