May is Better Hearing Month in the United States. We look forward to not only taking this opportunity to share hearing information and hearing health tips, but also to offer buy one get one free hearing aid batteries through the month! Watch our blog and social media channels to learn more about how your hearing health can affect your overall health and vice versa.
Some of the topics we will cover are risk factors for hearing loss. Many are well-known, like exposure to loud sounds, but there are some of which you may not be aware. Things like heart health, hypertension, smoking, diabetes, obesity, osteoporosis, ototoxic medications and extreme elevated body temperature are all factors that could lead to hearing loss. In turn, hearing loss can contribute greatly to social isolation, depression, cognitive decline as well as safety and balance issues.
There is a lot of positive information to share as well, like how hearing aids can help improve many of the conditions that untreated hearing loss leads to, like increased social activity, improved mood, a sharper mind and memory and improved balance, as well as safety with regard to hearing alarms and sirens or anything that may serve as a warning of danger.
There are a variety of options for hearing aids, like extended wear options that are invisible to others as they are fitted inside the ear, close to the eardrum by experienced professionals. Daily wear hearing aids come in many different styles, colors and models to allow the wearer to make the best decision for their personal needs.
